LOSS OF POWER ASSISTANCE TO STEERING

In certain cases a driver may experience sudden loss of power assistance to the steering due to voltage irregularities in the Electro Hydraulic Power Steering (EHPS) system.
Remedy
This is a further action to a previous recall. On affected vehicles the invertor software is to be further updated to cope with voltage spikes / drops and to improve fault tracing. The braided earth cable will also be replaced by a copper cable to ensure the invertor earthing is secured.

STARTER MOTOR HEATSHIELD MAY BREAK OFF AND CAUSE AN ELECTRICAL SHORT CIRCUIT

The brackets retaining the heat shield of the starter motor may fail and allow the heat shield to fall on and chafe through the B+ cable. If left there is a theoretical risk of fire.
Remedy
Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and replace the starter motor heat shield. Additionally the exhaust pipe will be inspected for signs of cracks on flange facing turbo outlet and the gasket will be replaced.

A faulty accelerator pedal sensor may cause erratic accelerator operation during operation of the accelerator pedal.This may vary between no throttle reaction to a speed greater than expected for a throttle position
Remedy
On affected vehicles replace the accelerator pedal with a new variant and install an adapter wiring harness

FUSE BOX CONNECTIONS INSECURE

The flange nut can seize on the thread of the studs in the fuse box which could mean the terminals do not have the correct torque and may be loose. This could cause arcing.
Remedy
Check fuse box; Replace all fuse box cable flange nuts to new correct type nuts and tighten to correct torque. If necessary replace the fuse box

INCORRECT OIL PAN FITTED

It has been established that on certain vehicles fitted with an MDE5 engine they may have been delivered with a lower volume oil pan during production. There is a risk of the sump being overfilled with oil. This could result in either the engine suffering a runaway due to it consuming its own oil or the Catalytic Converter can be contaminated which will affect the exhaust emissions.
Remedy
Recall all affected vehicles to replace the oil pan and dip stick also to update the Engine Management System (EMS) software.

ENGINE HATCH MAY SHOW CLOSED IN ERROR ENABLING ENGINE TO BE STARTED

It has been identified that due to corrosion the engine hatch switches may become stuck in closed or compressed position. This will indicate that the hatch is closed regardless of whether the hatch is in the open or closed position. In this condition the engine can be started with the hatch in the open position. This will therefore pose a risk of injury to any maintenance staff working in the engine compartment.
Remedy
Recall all affected vehicles to replace the current switches with new roller type switches.

ENGINE MAY OVERHEAT

The Soft Ware applied during manufacture was incorrect for Medium Duty Engines. All heat temperature sensors are affected and are not functioning. The Heat Sensor function is lost and there is no warning to driver if temperature reaches specified limit. If the driver does not stop the vehicle as it starts to overheat it is possible for the engine to seize.

VEHICLE MAY MOVE FORWARDS UNINTENTIONALLY

It is possible that a hybrid bus standing still with the diesel engine running on idle could suddenly move by itself. An incorrect accelerator pedal system can provide the gearbox with a corrupt acceleration request signal. The gearbox can change clutch status from disengaged to engaged which results in sudden vehicle movement if the vehicle is left in gear with the handbrake off.
Remedy
Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and update the I-shift gearbox software.
