POSSIBLE INSECURITY OF STEERING GEARBOX

10 May 1996Defect
The steering gearbox securing bolts may not have been tightened in the correct sequence. This could result in relaxation of the retaining torque at the pinion end with a reduction in steering precision and the possibility of stiffness
Remedy
Recall the affected vehicles and remove the steering box pinion end bolts one by one to check the condition of the threads Any bolt showing signs of thread damage will be replaced and in all cases the bolts will be retightened in the correct sequence
